Britain hosted the first round of the Formula One World Championship way back in 1950, but did you know that there has been 22 home winners since that day, making Britain the most successful nation at its own event with more than four times as many victories as their closest rivals the Germans?
The most successful home grown driver at the event was Jim Clark, who won the race five times in the 1960s; each time driving for the British Team Lotus team who are still the fourth most successful manufacturer at the race. The honour for most successful team is shared amongst McLaren and Ferrari who have recorded 15 victories each at the race.
There has also been four different venues which have shared the ‘British GP’ title since 1926, one of which was a horse racing venue in Liverpool. All of these facts have been collated by MoneySupermarket.com in the following infographic:”
