Pete Aron, played by James Garner, gets involved in an affair with an ex-teammate’s wife. Jean-Pierre Sarti is shown to be nearing his racing career’s end while another driver Nino Barlini is portrayed as a charismatic but arrogant racer. The fourth driver Scott Stoddard is shown to be recovering from a bad crash.

Grand Prix was directed by John Frankenheimer and produced by Edward Lewis while Robert Alan Aurthur was its writer. It was a big hit both commercially and critically. Made on a budget of $9 million, it garnered $20.8 million, plus it also bagged three Academy Awards. The movie was greatly praised for its spectacular racing footage which was captured by some of the earliest onboard cameras.

Fans of racing can also find cameo appearances of legendary racers like Juan Manuel Fangio, Phil Hill, Jack Brabham, and Jochen Rindt, etc.

2- Senna (2010)

You will find it hard to control your emotions by the end of this documentary film that was directed by Asif Kapadia and written by Manish Pandey. It tells the story of Ayrton Senna, the incredibly successful Brazilian racing driver who died in a tragic racing accident in 1994.

The film mainly focuses on the rivalry between Senna and Alain Prost, the four-time Formula One Drivers’ Champion. It received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics. The movie also won two BAFTAs for Best Documentary and Best Editing.

3- Le Mans (1971)

Le Mans may have been a commercial failure, but it won the hearts of racing fans all over the world. The film was directed by Lee H. Katzin and the main role was played by Steve McQueen.

The story of the movie is not very great as it follows a loose plotline. However, no-one can deny the amazing footages and realistic stunts that have earned Le Mans so many praises from racing fans.

4- Rush (2013)

Rush is one of the few films that was greatly admired by both critics and racing fans alike. It tells the story of two Formula One drivers, James Hunt and Niki Lauda who were two great rivals on the racing track.

The film was directed by Ron Howard and it starred Chris Hemsworth as Hunt and Daniel Bruhl as Lauda. It was a box office success and garnered $98.2 million against a budget of $38 million.
