The Top Upcoming Racing Games For 2021 and Beyond!

Racing games have come a long way since they first began with Gran Trak 10 in 1974. Back then, you had to get off the sofa and visit an arcade if you wanted to fly some cars around a track. Today, we have access to hundreds of racing games with stellar graphics, intricate maps, and vast catalogs of our favorite real-world cars. While there have been giant leaps in the quality of racing games, the race for the best ever racing game isn't over. Let's take a look at the best new racing games coming out in 2021 and beyond.

Need For Speed

This decades-old franchise is many racing game enthusiasts' favorite in the genre. The latest installment in the series, Need For Speed: Heat, was released in 2019 and was well-received, even being nominated for "Best Racing Game" at the Gamescom Awards. However, NFS Heat received its final update in 2020, leaving many players wondering when they can expect the next NFS game.

Not much is known about the upcoming Need For Speed game, but here's what we do know. EA initially promised investors there would be a new NFS title by March 2022. However, that now seems unlikely. Ghost Games, the developers that have been creating NFS console games since 2013, have recently been replaced with Criterion. With Criterion working hard on Battlefield 6, further delays to NFS are expected. While EA's top executive has assured fans that neither franchise is in trouble, it's looking like a November 2022 release date is more likely.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown

Probably one of the most anticipated racing games to be released in the near future, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is an open world driving and lifestyle experience. The lifestyle element of the game, which allows players to progress up the social ladder, acquiring money, fame, and respect, is one of the unique selling points of Test Drive Unlimited.

The game is said to sport a real-world location that was built on a 1:1 scale, excellent customization, and total freedom when it comes to progression. Confirmed cars are Porsche, Ferrari, Koenigsegg, Apollo, Lamborghini, Dodge, and Bugatti. Veterans of the franchise will also be happy to know that The Solar Crown Championship from the second Test Drive Unlimited title is making a return. A firm release date for the game hasn't been announced, but the teaser released last month ended by saying more information will follow in July 2021 - let's hope we get the release date then!

Gran Turismo 7

Expected to come with insane graphics and detailing, PlayStation's Gran Turismo 7 is set to make a big impression in the racing game world. The game has been confirmed as a PlayStation 5 title, with no word on whether it will also come to the PlayStation 4. It could be that the game is simply too technologically advanced to run on the old gen console. After all, Sony has hinted at 8K resolution, insane graphics, and a new VR experience.

One of the most hotly anticipated rumors of Gran Turismo 7 is that it could feature some of the original GT circuits. Although Sony hasn't officially confirmed or denied this, it looks possible, or even likely. Why? Because the last installment in the main series, Gran Turismo Sport, did at one point have the code for the old Deep Forest circuit running in the game. However, it wasn't implemented at release because of some issues developers had with the scale of assets. Some of the curbstones were as wide as the cars! Hopefully, the developers have managed to iron out these issues with the original tracks, and we can finally experience them again, only this time in vibrant HD!

In terms of the release date, we know that the game has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and has been delayed. A 2022 release seems more likely than a 2021 release.

F1 2021

Fans of the F1 series will be happy to know that we do have a firm release date for the latest title in the series. F1 2021, successor of F1 2020 will be released on July 16, 2021, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Although the game isn't expected to be radically different from the other titles in the series, some new features are coming. Players can expect a brand-new story mode, an expanded career mode with a two-player option, and the teams, drivers, and circuits from the 2021 FIA Formula One World Championship.
