Race notes:
The favourites failed to make it through the Vallelunga Gold Cup six hour race on November 21. Victory therefore went to the SR2 Tampolli of Denny Zardo and Angelo Lancelotti. The little Alfa Romeo powered car inherited the lead after the Conrero R&S of Caffi and Gabbiani retired (electrics) and the Bscher/Pirro BMW V12 LM went out with driveshaft failure, after an 'off' by the car owner. The remaining challenge to the SR2 came from Luca Drudi in the Italtecnica 333 SP, but this one went out with a broken front hub.
So Lancelotti and Zardo finished ten laps plus clear of three more SR2s - all Lucchinis. The GT class was won by the Seikel Porsche 911 GT2 of Nigel Smith, Ernst Palmberger and Giuseppe Quargentan. They'd trailed the Hofer/Riccitelli/Blieninger Porsche until that lost time in the pits with a look at the engine.
Ivan Capelli was very quick in the wet in a Ferrari 355, but retired with gearbox failure.
